Based on the Federal Dropship, the Federal Assault Ship sacrifices the flexibility of its sibling in favour of a more combat-oriented profile.
Faster and more manoeuvrable than the Dropship, and boasting two medium and two large hardpoints, this is a vessel that has been designed to strike fast and hard.
The trade-off for this power and agility is a reduction in internal compartments, making the Assault Ship less versatile than the Dropship. The Federal Assault Shipalso referenced as Federal Dropship MkII and abbreviated as FASwas introduced in the CQC update and is a combat-oriented variant of the Federal Dropship by having improved speed and manoeuvrability over the latter without compromising firepower or defense.
The Federal Assault Ship's agility comes at the cost of fewer Internal Compartmentswhich makes it more of a fighter than a multipurpose ship. As a combat ship, the Federal Assault Ship's main competitor is the Alliance Chieftain when considering for a purchase.
Both ships have identical core internal compartments, identical agility ratings the Federal Assault Ship has higher boost speed but lower base top speedsimilar defensive capabilities the Assault Ship offers significantly better module protection than the Chieftain, but has a weaker shield and very similar base price tags. However, the Chieftain has slightly better firepower and its hardpoints are slightly better placed, has slightly better optional internal compartments, but is mass locked by the Federal Assault Ship.
While the Chieftain has no rank requirement for purchase unlike the Federal Assault Ship, it does require the Horizons expansion. The weapon hardpoints are located as follows: one top mounted large hardpoint located behind the cockpit, one bottom mounted large hardpoint located on the nose of the ship, and two medium hardpoints located in the bottom of the base of each lower wing.
The locations of the bottom mounted hardpoints are in identical to those on both the Federal Dropship and the Federal Gunship. All ships are customisable through the Outfitting menu of Station Services. Listed below is the default load-out for the Federal Assault Ship. Sign In Don't have an account? Start a Wiki. If you want to be a bounty hunter, but are either completely oblivious of your objective, or simply wanting to know more, this guide is for you. Preparation Obviously, before you go out and start bounty hunting, you'll need to know what you need for preparation. Luckily, it won't require as much things as other roles, but there is still a sizeable amount of things that you will need in order to be a bounty hunter. Ships There is a large variety of ships that are suitable for bounty hunting.
You can literally use whatever ship you'd like, as long as it is at least remotely related to combat, and preferably overcredits in price. Hardpoints For people who are new to the game, or people who suck at aiming like me :PI recommend using gimballed weapons.
They automatically aim for you, as long as you are at least remotely fixed on your target's location. However, they are more expensive and deal less damage than fixed weapons. Fixed weapons deal slightly more damage than gimballed ones, and are reasonably cheaper. However, they require immense aiming skills to land properly. I, myself, like to use Multi-Cannons and Beam Lasers.
Multi-Cannons are basically miniguns.
Elite Dangerous - how to choose the best ship and upgrade it
They fire rapidly and deal kinetic damage, little by little. Their trajectory is a bit ahead of the target ship, as it takes a moment for the bullets to reach the enemy ship. A Beam Laser could easily be compared to Zarya from Overwatch 's weapon. If you don't know what her weapon does, it's pretty much a continuously firing deathray. However, in Overwatch, she uses ammo, like the Multi-Cannons in Elite do. The Beam Laser in Elite, though, can fire forever until the ship hits a "thermal overload".
Firing too long, or being near a heat source, can induce this. But, while the Beam Laser can fire, it can deal loads of damage to enemy hulls and shields alike. So, hook up two of these on a small or medium gimballed mount, and you've got yourself a damned killing machine. Modules Modules are a big part of every role, and every one has some modules that are required!
But, there's no specific core modules you need, since you need all of them in order to run your ship, and you can't even replace them. So, upgrading your modules is always a good idea no matter what your career is. I suggest upgrading your bulkheads to Military-Grade Composite. That's pretty much all you need for preparation as a bounty hunter.
Now, let's talk about the premice of bounty hunting.Lasers flashing past your cockpit, cannons hammering your hull, and of course your enemies exploding all around you.
Dog fighting is a high risk career, but if done correctly it can also have huge payouts. With countless ships, modules, hardpoints, and engineering upgrades, customization is as limitless as the Elite universe.
This ship is incredibly cheap and requires no rank grinding. Head over to your nearest station equipped with a shipyard and pick one up today! A Federal Assault Ship waiting for its next victim. As its name suggests, this is a Federation ship.
Find a good system to make your home for a while and grind missions until you reach the rank of Chief Petty Officer. By the time you make the rank you should have easily enough credits to purchase the ship and begin outfitting it. The FDL is truly one of the deadliest ships in the galaxy.

Due to its rock-bottom price, the Viper MkIII is the perfect ship to hone your piloting skills without worrying about huge insurance costs.
The Viper MkIII has a good balance of firepower, maneuverability, and tankiness which makes it popular not just with newbies, but also with veterans. Enemies will be hard pressed to keep you in their crosshairs as you draw circles around them. The FAS can take down anything from the smallest eagle to the largest corvette with ease. Excluding the big 3 it will probably be the FDL if you are talking about pure combat as it has the same firepower but better manuverbility and shield health than the Python, but it is lacking in anythiing else as it has a super low jump range and small and limited internals.
Vs NPC's anything works. Like literally, you could go bounty hunting in a stock sidey and you'd probably have good luck. If you mean "I want to feel like a total badass and absolutely dominate PvE area's" then I'd recommend a Vulture. A good Vulture is almost untouchable I've taken down elite anaconda's and not taken a single hit.
Python's are alright for whatever you want to do with them. But I find them too slow and cumbersome to really do dogfighting with. I'm currently rolling with a Federal Assault Ship for the community goal bounty hunting and it's served me very well. Again, it's a fairly agile ship that does best not taking too many hits while still having enough firepower to take down most anything. If you really want to go in style, get yourself an Eagle with some railguns.
If you master that, you can outfly anything. It's a risk though That thing has paper for armor.First published on the 7th of April, updated on February 22 Welcome to the Combat Guide! All Ships Reviewed Quick (Elite Dangerous)
Vanquish your enemies, steal their goods and protect your allies. First of all, note that the following tips are from my experience, my opinion and the feedback I have been given to improve this article. However, this is a solid foundation to understand combat; To lear and enhance your experience.
As a fighter, your roles can be multiple and your intentions different. An assassin looking for a dangerous fugitive? A guard, protecting traders? A pirate stealing from the weakest? A veteran fighter for your Powerplay Power? Know that everything is possible.
Any ship can fight and fulfill all the fighters roles… but some are more advantaged than others. The D rated modules are very light and unfortunately very fragile, while the A rated ones are sturdy, powerful and very expensive. Offensive and defensive modules are available in game. We will discuss their uses in detail in order for you to best equip your ship according to your gameplay.
Each armour has a Hardness value and each weapon has a Piercing value, all damage is multiplied by: Min 1. This is a random chance that scales with current hull health. If the penetration roll fails then we deal all damage to the hull and skip to step 8. If you missed, then the internal spheres will be used in the next steps. In the current live build 1. This ray is compared against all the internal yellow spheres and any that intersect are candidates — one of which will be picked at random weighted by how dead-on the hit to its sphere was.
